City and Islington College Hosts Korean University students on Hair and Beauty Programme

Beauty students

City and Islington College recently welcomed a group of 13 students from JEI University based in South Korea to take part in an 8 week programme achieving a Level 2 Hair and Beauty diploma.

The students graduated at the beginning of March, celebrating the completion of their internationally recognised diploma at a certificate presentation held at the College’s Centre for Health, Social and Child Care in London.

Some of the students also took part in an industry visit to To ny & Guy where they shadowed hairstylists, were given a tour of the salon and an overview of the treatments they offer. This opportunity, alongside working in CIC’s own salon Oasisenabled students to understand and deliver customer care.

The opportunity to attend classes alongside CIC students from the UK optimised the chance for JEI students to improve their ability to understand and speak English; evident through the vast improvement over the two month period.

On the 27th February, the students presented their skills in a showcase where guests were invited from the Vocational Training Charitable Trust (the awarding body of the qualification) alongside senior staff members from City and Islington College.

“Working with the students has been an absolute pleasure."

For the showcase, a student of CIC was assigned as a model to a JEI University student. The JEI students studying makeup created a burlesque-style look on their model and the hair students transformed their models into brides.

Shabana Davison, Lecturer in Beauty Therapy for CIC, commented: “Working with the students has been an absolute pleasure. They are a very talented group and have learnt two new skill areas during the programme; Body Art and Festival makeup which they seem to have really enjoyed."

Following the students’ departure, two of the best students will be selected to complete a Level 3 Hair and Beauty diploma to learn more advanced techniques and further their industry experience.

This is the first time City and Islington College have hosted this bespoke programme and with continued development of the course and further positive feedback from students, CIC are proud to continue this relationship with JEI University.
